Hi, my name is Karla and we will be doing a beginner flow today to open up the hips. It’s really important to open up the hips because it gives us freedom to have a fuller range of motion throughout our body.
In some yoga traditions the pelvis is thought to house negative emotions and pent up feelings, so if we have open hips we can let go of negative energy and start to free ourselves from tension.
Taoist Yin Yoga centers on the principle of reducing tension in the physical body through the practice of releasing asanas. Releasing asanas develop flexibility of the muscles and connective tissues (tendons, ligaments) allowing one to achieve full range of motion in the joints. This release of tension allows for more efficient circulation of blood and energy, allowing a practitioner to return to a more natural state of health and well being. Releasing asanas are taught in conjunction with breathing exercises and meditative practices.
